Clinical Data Exchange API Getting Started

The Clinical Data Exchange (CDEx) Attachment Submission API allows providers, provider organizations, and trading partners to submit supporting clinical documentation for prior authorization or claim-review requests. The request is submitted as a FHIR Parameters resource containing business identifiers and one or more FHIR DocumentReference (A FHIR DocumentReference resource is a metadata container that represents a document and tells systems what the document is, where it is, and how to retrieve it) attachments. Upon successful processing, the API returns an acknowledgment indicating receipt of the submission.

Endpoint

• /cdex/submit-attachment — accepts structured attachment data (e.g., PDF, image, or document) and associates it to the correct authorization case, validating required identifiers and linkage details.
